The Newmarket radial arch was built in 1909 for the Toronto and York Radial Railway Co. A parabola 15 meters by 7 meters it supported part of the trestle bridge spanning the Holland River. This electric railway operated between Toronto and Jackson's Point to the north. It also had other lines in and around the city totaling about 115 miles of tracks. Most of the service was discontinued in the 1930's with the Richmond Hill line surviving until 1948.
