Cool - looks like some frozen lock to a gate or something...

All I can up with is that it is some sort of guard rail with a latch used to hold open a door or, as Karoliina Urso already guessed, a gate.
It's a nice detail and it looks quite shiny and new.
No idea. But it has to be something that lives outdoors because of the snow. Intriguing.
Perhaps I should pop over to the train station to have a look, I'm just across the road!!!
On second thoughts, it's far too cold! I'll wait till you publish the answer!
